I can not eat, but I can try 2021

The work “I can not eat but I can try” is created after the sessions The BERG had with this newly bought Joseph Beuys work.

The artist divided his interactions with the Joseph Beuys into four episodes of degustation, consumption, digestion and distillation which could be viewed on the TV which later on he screened in the theatre space.

Each step portrayed a different action. The degustation for the unpacking, consumption for touching, digestion for dining with it and lastly the distillation was for having a final cigarette with the work.

The silent roles of over powering each other in between generational gaps and differences of historical power, The BERG aimed to achieve a certain desensitisation of the Beuys both for him and the audience.

Having to work with a “name” and its power while including him in his work also was made into a possibility with The BERG being able to purchase him. Therefore The BERG took the attitude of upper hand from the beginning since he could simply purchase him artistic offspring.
