HOST II 2022

The work HOST ,which is three part series, continued with a second installation in Vienna. The BERG after his learning and seeing how the audience approached the first work, decided to shift the focus point more in the direction of reflex based reactions. Contrary to HOST (I), HOST (II) did not require active participation yet rather passive reactions. The artist’s approach on how to create the simplest reaction of sympathy, concretised in the yawning part of the performance, since according to the human revolution the contagious yawning is a significant value of automatic sympathy.

The work included a book titled, “Wearisome absence”, which The BERG had the reading of it for 5minutes. In the same manner of the first book, Wearisome absence included phrases which put the audience in a guilty yet admired position. Meanwhile the reading, The BERG had yawned throughout where the text indicated that the user should yawn.

The audiences reactions varied depending on the beginning, ending and online. Meanwhile some ofthe crowd mirrored The BERG, some of it remained unfazed. Interestingly enough the watchers online of the performance indicated that watching the snippets of the performance on instagram stories made them fully yawn.
