HOST I 2022

The artist’s over protection and criticism over their own works is a clear known fact yet how this acknowledgement is passed through the audience is usually plays between the double edged structure of honesty and over-shadowing of reality. The example of an artist’s approach to their own works could be also comparable to how parenting is done over different cultures and different families. From guilt tripping to altruism of pressing hidden features of egocentrism, the various acts of parenting is and has always been the general critical topic of people. Something with the treatment of familial issues and effects of these transitional values to reproducing children or moral structures carries a decisive and immediate importance in human reactions.

Parenting and narcissistic behaviour can carry common point in between them, which allows The BERG to create the change to break the forth wall in between the honesty and over-shadowing approaches ofhow one artist approaches to the work itself. Can you blame your work being bad if the work is under sufferance of gas-lighting and constant over-exaggerations of how good it is?

The installation which will be centre of continuous acts of performance will be the laboratory of narcissistic parenting trials. The installation will hold all the elements of the series acts, which are consisted of the general missions of a good parent. The acts circles around the basic necessities of whata parent is expected to give to their child, like food, protection,, education etc. The each act will be guided by The BERG, who will be over looking eye and the tension point of the performance. The guideline titled “No need to worry, I’m not going to die for a long time” of parenting will be read out meanwhile the audience enjoys the food.
